Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 13, 2026
Overview
NotchShelf is designed with privacy at its core. We believe your data belongs to you. The app runs entirely on your Mac and processes everything locally — no cloud servers, no accounts, no tracking.
Data We Do Not Collect
NotchShelf does not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:
- Personal information (name, email, phone number, address)
- Files, documents, or clipboard contents
- Calendar events or reminders
- Browsing history or search queries
- Microphone audio or camera footage
- Location data
- Advertising identifiers (IDFA)
On-Device Processing
All features — including AI text processing, clipboard management, file operations, and system monitoring — run entirely on your device. No data leaves your Mac for processing.
Analytics
We use Mixpanel to collect anonymous, aggregated usage analytics to help us improve the app. This includes:
- Which features are used (e.g. "timer started", "file dropped")
- App launch and session duration
- macOS version and device model
This data is not linked to your identity. We do not use advertising identifiers. We do not track you across apps or websites. You cannot be personally identified from this data.
Subscriptions
Subscription purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID — no personal information is shared. Payment details are handled exclusively by Apple and are never accessible to us.
iCloud Sync
NotchShelf uses iCloud Key-Value Storage to sync your preferences (theme, settings, toggles) across your devices. This data is stored in your personal iCloud account and is governed by Apple's privacy policy. We cannot access your iCloud data.
Permissions
NotchShelf requests the following system permissions, each for a specific purpose:
- Calendar: To display upcoming events in the notch panel.
- Bluetooth: To show paired device battery levels and connection status.
- Camera: For the mirror/camera preview tool.
- Microphone: For the global mic mute indicator.
- Automation (Apple Events): To control Apple Music and Spotify playback.
All permissions are optional. The app functions without them — only the specific features that require a permission will be unavailable.
Third-Party Services
- RevenueCat — Subscription management. Privacy Policy
- Mixpanel — Anonymous analytics. Privacy Policy
Data Retention
All app data (clipboard history, file shelf items, settings) is stored locally on your Mac and in your iCloud account. We do not maintain any servers that store your data. Uninstalling the app removes all local data.
Children's Privacy
NotchShelf is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
